EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T sprinter
Trevor Stewart (SR, Spotsylvania, Va.) was named the 2019 United States of America Track and Field (USATF) athlete of the year in the state of Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the second annual USATF Virginia Awards Celebration at Jepson Alumni Center on the campus of the University of Richmond.
Stewart won athlete of the year in the Track and Field Open category. Stewart entered the 2020 indoor and outdoor season on the Bowerman Award Watch List for best men's track and field athlete in the country.
He earned his recognitions by having a spectacular 2019 outdoor season. Stewart finished second in the nation in the men's 200 meters with a time of 44.25. He also finished fifth nationally with his teammates in the 4x400-meter relay.
Stewart won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) title in the 400 by running a 44.38. At the time it was the 14
th-fastest 400m ever recorded in the world. He won seven of the eight 400m races he ran in 2019 with his only loss coming at the NCAA championships in Austin, Texas.
