Bowling Goes 4-1 During Day 1 of MEAC Meet

N.C. A&T defeats two ranked teams.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – North Carolina A&T women's bowling went 4-1 on the first day of the second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) meet of the season to place third at Cordova Lanes.

The Aggies won the first three games but lost the fourth game against No. 6 Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and followed up with a win over No. 18 Delaware State to finish the day.
N.C. A&T started the day with an 866-722 win over Bethune-Cookman.  The Wildcats outscored the Aggies 183-147 in the first game, but the Aggies outscored the Wildcats over the next four games to claim the victory.

The Aggies (60-35, 13-2 MEAC) squeaked out a win in the second game with a 913-910 win over Howard.  The Aggies recorded their first 200-plus game of the day outscoring Howard 201-167 in the first game.

Howard outscored N.C. A&T 170-165 in the second game to cut the lead to 366-337. The Bison barely outscored the Aggies 185-183 in the third and looked impressive in the fourth game with a 212-183 advantage.

The Bison held a two-pin lead going into the fifth game before the Aggies came up clutch by knocking down 181 pins to Howard's 176 to improve to 2-0 on the day.
N.C. A&T defeated Coppin State 942-832 in the third game. Coppin State outscored the Aggies 168-166, but N.C. A&T outscored the Eagles over the next four games including an impressive 232-179 advantage in the fifth game.

UMES handed the Aggies their only loss of the day, a 1,035-962. In fact, the Aggies two losses in conference play thus far this season have been to UMES.
The Aggies outscored Maryland Eastern Shore 202-196 in the first game and 218-211 in the second game to take a 420-407.  UMES outscored the Aggies 212-169 in the third game to shift momentum in their favor. The Hawks extended their lead after outscoring N.C. A&T 213-165 in the fourth game for an 832-754 lead.  The Aggies outscored The Shore 208-203 in the final game.

N.C. A&T finished the day with a 929-869 win over Del State.  The Hornets held a 350-334 lead over the first two games. The Aggies outscored Delaware State 214-184 in the third game to retake the lead, 548-534.

It was close in the fourth game (192-190) before the Aggies pulled away by outscoring the Hornets 189-172. UMES leads the tournament going 5-0 with 4,909 total pins for a five-game average 196.4 and Delaware State ranks second with a 3-2 record and 4,730 total pins for an average of 189.2.

The Aggies have 4,612 total pins for an average of 184.5. Twenty-second Monmouth ranks fourth with a 3-1 record and 4,506 total pins for an average of 180.2. Florida A&M rounds out the top five with a 2-3 record with 4,435 total pins (177.4).

N.C. A&T continues the tournament with four traditional matches Saturday with Morgan State, Monmouth, Alabama-Birmingham and FAMU.
