GREENSBORO -
Calesio Newman's made one final push and it is a push that will put him on a plane headed to Eugene, Ore. Newman is headed to another NCAA Track and Field Nationals after qualifying in the 100 meters on Friday.
Newman qualified for his third national meet with a qualifying time of 10.32 in the 100 meters. He finished eighth overall as he tries to secure All-American status before he leaves behind his superb collegiate career. Newman also qualified for the 200 meters quarterfinal on Friday. Newman won his heat with a time of 20.77.
If he finishes in the top 12 in the 200 meters on Saturday, he will head to a national meet with two national championships to compete for the first time in his career. His day will not end with the 200, however. Newman will team with Earl House, Akinwole Jordan and Darryl House to compete in the 4x100 meter relay.
The Aggies did have some competitors eliminated from competition during the event. Sophomore long jumper Shakia Forbes' 19-foot, 4 ¼ inch jump was not enough to get her to nationals. Senior Jerrine Foster threw the shot put 46-feet, 11 ¾ inches, but she also placed out of the top 12 needed to qualify. Jenea McMannon also finished out of the top 12 in the 400 meter hurdles.
Jarrell Elliott ran a 47.43 in the men's 400 meters. Senior David McFadgen is the only Aggie left who can join Newman in Oregon. McFadgen will try to qualify for his second straight NCAA national meet in the triple jump.
